Anyone who thought the Riddick franchise, launched with 2000s sci-fi horror film Pitch Black, was dead doesn’t know star Vin Diesel’s love for the character. A fourth film in the franchise has been announced, titled Riddick: Furya, in which Diesel will once again play Riddick, the alien who can see in the dark. Also returning is David Twohy, the franchise’s writer-director.

The new film will pick up where Riddick left off in 2013, with the titular character returning to his homeworld, which he remembers very little. He fears the Necromongers have destroyed the planet, but instead finds the Furians fighting a new enemy and must join forces with a group of fighters who look more like him than he suspects.

“Our legion of fans have been demanding it from us for years, and we’re finally ready to answer their call to action with Ridick: Furya“My collaboration with Vin and One Race has spanned 20 successful years, during which we have together created three feature films, two video games, an anime production and animated comics for the internet. This new big-screen event will see us return to Riddick’s homeworld, where we can finally explore Riddick’s genesis.”

Many will say that the Riddick franchise – spanning movies, cartoons, comics, and video games – is hit or miss, but in reality, they’re all hits. While some of his greatness may be less than others (Chronicles of Riddick), there’s something absurdly likable about Riddick, and now he’s back for a fourth movie after a decade. We can only hope that means we get another game as well, because both episodes of Riddick in this arena are absolutely stellar.
