More than five years have passed since we caught up with the boys and girls of Operación Triunfo 2017. Musical talent has returned to TVE stronger than ever, showing the format is alive and catapulting a whole new generation of artists like Aitana, Amaia or Lola Indigo.

Among the contestants was Ricky Merino. The Spaniard, who managed to earn his place in the entertainment industry as a presenter, reached the sixth gala, being the fifth expelled from the edition. In this way, Ricky remembered his time on the Radio Aragón show.

Best of all? That he said something he still hasn’t gotten over about his stay. “There is a problem that, five years later, I still haven’t overcome. They’re asking you to submit a list of 15 songs you’d like to sing on the show, right?” He begins by reminiscing.

Ricky goes on to explain that his 15 selected tracks should have been “awesome” because “they were given to everyone but me.”

The artist goes on to explain that one of the tracks that made the list was DNCE’s Cake By The Ocean. He thought they were going to give it to him at the first gala (since he had put it on the list), but the song went to Raoul and Thalía.

“Run with Jesse and Joy was also on my list. And so every week,” the singer said, referring to Mireya Bravo and Juan Antonio’s version.

What song would you like to sing?

The presenter asks him what song he wanted to sing. Ricky is clear about this and, honestly, it would have been a fantasy: “There was one I wanted to do, it was a Spice Girls song. It would have been really cool to do a version of it.”

Without a doubt, we would have liked to see Ricky and the rest of his teammates go all out with Wannabe. That would have been the history of Spain.
