Yoko Taro, the creator of Nier and Drakengard, has confirmed his next project: a bizarre game that imagines Sega taking over the world.

404 Game Re:Set – Error Game Reset is a free mobile game released in collaboration with Sega.

According to a press release, 404 Game Re:Set – Error Game Reset will see players “immersed in battle against Sega to restore the twisted world” to its original state.

Characters from Sega franchises such as Virtua Cop, After Burner, OutRun and Virtua Fighter help players in this quest. The thing? They were redesigned as “beautiful (anime) girls to color the story”.

404 Game Re:Set – Error Game Reset will be released in Spring 2023. It is currently available for pre-registration on the Apple Store and Google Play Store, with “gems” available for those who pre-register.

In an interview with Famitsu, 404 Game Re:Set – Error Game Reset producer Gosuke Nakamura said the reimagined characters should resonate with a “younger generation”.

He also revealed that Taro got involved on the condition that he had a free hand with Sega’s various IP addresses. Namamura agreed, before getting permission from Sega. “Yoko-san thought it would be more interesting to go all out and make Sega the big bad, rather than complaining about the company. So this project is taking place under Sega’s dictatorship,” said- he added.

“This project is a very bold and challenging title, which features both Yoko Taro and Sega,” Nakamua continues.

In other news, Motion Twin has confirmed the Castlevania-inspired DLC release date for Dead Cells.

According to Evil Empire, the Return To Castlevania DLC is “our own love letter to the grandfather of Dead Cells”. The DLC will bring “two new biomes” to Dead Cells along with classic Castlevania weapons, enemies, and bosses.
