the week of Goya Prize He’s already here! Like every year, we have an unmissable event to celebrate and claim Spanish cinema. Throughout its 36-year history, at more or less television pace, the various editions have not only rewarded the best audiovisual productions, but have also offered us unforgettable performances, precious tributes and lots and lots of emotion.

And in the same way, the successive galas have left us moments of the reverse side of the medal. Confusions, spontaneous misunderstandings, accidents… All this causing discomfort in the viewer, to a greater or lesser extent.

For this reason, in LOS40 we have compiled —in no specific order— ten of the moments we consider to have been the most talked about in the last 20 years, due to the embarrassment of the situation. We invite you to make your own ranking: How would your TOP 10 be?

1. Antonio Resines’ rap attempt – Goya 2012

After the controversial end of The Serranos In 2008, Antonio Resins decided that he wanted to continue to mark the Spanish audiovisual imagination by doing something that, given the result, one imagines he will never do again —even if Fran Perea asks him for the 20th anniversary of the series and its album The girl in the next room—.

The actor volunteered to present the 2012 nominations to Best Original Song rapping with other colleagues, like El Langui (who was in his comfort zone), Juan Diego, Javier Gutiérrez and Tito Valverde. A few days later, Resines hid behind the fact that his disastrous performance It was Santiago Segura’s fault“Just before he left, he said to me, ‘Dude, you look like a bottle of Coca-Cola with that hat.’ At that point, I lost the rope and ran off.” , he justified himself.

2. The mess of envelopes, with Adriana Ugarte and Carlos Santos – Goya 2013

Long before Warren Bitty and Faye Dunaway received the wrong envelope and mistakenly announced La La Land (and not to Moonlight) As the winner of Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars, at the 2013 Goya Awards, something similar happened in another of the most important categories of the evening: that of Best Original Song.

That year, the people responsible for presenting the said prize were Adriana Ugarte and Carlos Santos who, on reading the card, gave as a winner to Wild children. However, when the supposed clear winners descended the stairs of the auditorium, the two comedians warned of their mistake (“Big mistake. We are very sorry”, Santos agrees) to, in the process, confirm that the statuette was intended To Snow White and the song I can’t find you by Juan Gomez, Chicuelo and Pablo Berger.

3. Pedro Almodóvar dedicates his prize to Felipe de Borbón on his birthday – Goya 2000

In 2000, Pedro Almodóvar received the Goya award for best director for All about my mother. His acceptance speech here was shorterbecause he reserved himself to list all the Spanish virgins and saints that his sisters prayed for the Oscar gala, which took place in March (and in which he won the prize for best foreign language film) , to do something else.

After saying “thank you” and to the astonishment of those present, the man from La Mancha launched into sing Happy birthday a member of the royal family invited to the gala: neither more nor less than Felipe de Borbón, our current king and at the time still prince, to whom he also dedicated the big head.

4. The red heels of Dani Rovira, Goya 2017

Presenting the Goya gala is never easy. Public opinion will always be watching you, what you say, what you do, how you do it… and what you don’t do too. In 2017, Dani Rovira, in his effort to demand more visibility for women in the film world, thought it was a good idea to wear red heels and wander from place to place to chat with the different stars of our country.

And it would have been a good idea if Sebastián Yatra had been one of the artists invited to sing during the night and had wanted to wink at him for his success… in 2022, but that was not the case. and his gesture was far from being considered a vindication for their companions, had the opposite effect and it was not understood.

5. ‘El cabezón’ collapses, Goya 2009

Maybe because of the category they presented, he was already prepared, but in 2009, Javier Gutiérrez lived one of those moments when you want the earth to swallow you If at first you don’t feel like it’s agreed and more than rehearsed. He and Clara Lago awarded the Goya for Best Special Effects, a category that took Mortadelo and Filemón: mission to save the Earthby Miguel Bardem.

When Raúl Romanillos, Pau Costa, José Quetglas, Eduardo Díaz, Álex Grau and Chema Remacha took the stage to receive their awards, the actor “stumbled” with such clumsiness that the reward fell from his hands, with such bad luck that the bronze bust burst on the ground and ended up decapitated. A blunder which, seen from the positive side, was a way of distributing sculpture in a Solomonic fashion among so many winners.

6. Sexist comments behind the scenes – Goya 2021

You only have to look back a few years to realize that, unfortunately, there is still much to do in gender equality. What the Goya 2021 Red Carpet Live Stream has collected via Facebook is probably one of the most embarrassing, outrageous and rancid moments we’ve experienced in recent times.

Various individuals made various sexist comments (objectification and misogyny in its purest form) about some guests who attended such an atypical gala in person, such as Nathy Peluso, Daniela Santiego Marta Nieto or María Casado, among others.

7. Amaia interrupts her performance to start again – Goya 2019

The live songs gave several great moments to the Goyas and, of course, this one with Amaia had to be on our list. In 2019, La Pamplonica produced a blend one of the nominees for Best Original Song along with Rozalén, Judit Nedderman and Manu Guix (on piano). She started it, but just when it looked like she was going to articulate the first verse of the song, she said something else: “Okay, wait, wait. It’s that we have a problem. The click was not heard (in the in the ears) or I don’t know what happened. So please if we can turn off the music or something. THANKS”.

Once again, the 2017 OT winner showed a natural in the face of a technical sound problem that made it impossible to start the song. Many have called his role oblivion, but, in the words of pianist Guix, what he did was “save the number”.

8. The tribute to Nino Bravo which was not one – Goya 2022

The 2022 ceremony started with a bang: with fireworks and an unprecedented musical number. To be in Valencia, the winner could not be other than Nino Bravo. However, this inaugural performance, given by Bebe, Cristina Castaño and Jedet, left much to be desired.

The three artists, accompanied by a large dance group, sang together free In the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía or, at least, that was its goal. Because looking at what they did on stage and in the auditorium, anyone would say they knew it was a three part song; the harmonies, rhythm and synchronization between them were conspicuous by their absence.

9. The spontaneous in service – Goya 2011

What’s a good show without the presence of a spontaneous? Throughout history, we’ve seen people sneak into TV events to focus on a social issue or just to interrupt.

In 2011, as the Best Actor award was about to be awarded, Jimmy Jump appeared out of nowhere to share a few words into the microphone. In 2020, there was a not-so-spontaneous spontaneous. As Los Javis gave a speech and presented the nominations for Best Documentary Feature, a woman took the stage to send an eco-friendly message – “Save the planet” – and attack actors and creators. A few minutes later, we learned that the person was Paula Meliveo, who gave the Goya to Ara Malikian: A life between the ropes.

10. The veil-mask of Najwa Nimri – Goya 2021

Even in the event of a pandemic, Spanish films have not failed in price! A different and distant gala took place, but it was celebrated. For the most part virtual, with many nominees (and consequential winners) following the gala connected from home via video call and glued to the TV like any other neighbour’s son, very few professionals physically attended the Soho Caixabank theater in Malaga.

“We were few and the grandmother gave birth,” says the popular expression. And said and done, because Najwa Nimri appeared on the red carpet wearing a translucent black gauze mask that more than a protection against the coronavirus, it looked more like a fashion accessory. An element of its elegant appearance which, despite the fact that she assured in front of the RTVE cameras that she was fully approved and that she complied with health standards, He was spared neither controversy nor criticism on social networks.
