At least two babies were stabbed to death on Tuesday by a teenager who invaded a nursery in the municipality of Saudade, in the state of Santa Catarina, south of Brazil, reported the Civil Police.
The young man, who also injured one of the teachers at the municipal nursery, was detained by the authorities.
The number of victims could be higher, since according to the newspaper O Globo, the military police have confirmed the death of a teacher, in addition to the one who was injured.
According to the regional delegate of Chapecó, Ricardo Newton Casagrande, the teenager entered the nursery with a machete and attacked the victims.
The suspect was seriously injured and was taken to a nearby health center.
The events occurred at around 11 a.m. local time and so far the reasons that led the adolescent to commit the crimes of which he is accused are unknown.
According to the Mayor’s Office, the nursery serves students up to three years of age.
Police did not report the ages of the victims and the teenager.
