The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, was urgently hospitalized in the early hours of Monday to treat a possible intestinal obstruction, local press reported.

Bolsonaro, 66, who was stabbed in the abdomen during the 2018 presidential campaign, was transferred to Vila Nova Star hospital, in Sao Paulo, after landing from Santa Catarina (south), where he spent the end of the year holidays , according to TV Globo and various media.

Contacted by AFP, neither the presidential press service nor the hospital responded so far.

Images from TV Globo show the president disembarking from the presidential plane on foot, along with his entourage.

The doctor Antônio Luiz Macedo, who has operated on Bolsonaro on other occasions, told the UOL news portal that the president would undergo several tests, including a tomography, to examine the possible intestinal obstruction.

Bolsonaro was already admitted in mid-July to be treated for an intestinal obstruction. On that occasion, he stayed in the hospital for four days.

Due to the stabbing he received in 2018, the far-right leader underwent at least four surgeries that made him more prone to intestinal disorders.
