The famous political publicist José Eduardo Cavalcanti de Mendonça, better known as Doubt Mendonça died this monday in the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital of San Pablo at 77 years old.

He had been hospitalized there since June carrying out a treatment for brain cancer that finally ended his life. He was married to Aline, with whom he had four children.

Mendonça was one of the main communicators not only of Brazil, but of America Latina. His outstanding clients included no less than Lula da Silva and the former Argentine president Carlos Saúl Menem.

In his long career as a political publicist, he also worked with other renowned Brazilian leaders from across the ideological arc such as Paulo Maluf, Miguel Arraes, Ciro Gomes or Paulo Skaf, among others.

Considered by many to be a communication guru, Mendonça became well known in Brazil for having created the first presidential election campaign won by Lula in 2002, with the slogan “Lulinha, Peace and Love”.

The former president dedicated a few heartfelt words to whoever would help him win his first presidency.

Duda Mendonça was a genius in political communication. His work in the 2002 campaign has already gone down in history as one of the most beautiful and sensitive in our history. At a time when Brazil was suffering an acute crisis, energy rationing and misery, Duda Mendonça produced films and messages of great sensitivity, so that hope could overcome fear. To his family and friends, my condolences“, said Lula.
