The pressure in the intensive care units of Brazil, one of the countries most affected by the covid-19, has been slightly reduced, although it continues at levels “Very high” in much of its territory, according to a report released this Friday by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).

The second wave of the pandemic, which led the country to average 3,000 deaths a day from the new coronavirus, is beginning to show timid signs of stabilization and, in some cases, of improvement with small reductions in the number of cases and deaths.

Fiocruz reported this Friday in its latest bulletin on the pandemic that the occupancy rates of intensive care beds for adults with covid-19 “are generally kept at very high levels”, In the public health system of various states of the country.

However, between April 12 and 19, there was a slight reduction in 14 of the 27 Brazilian states: Amazonas, Roraima, Pará, Amapá, Río Grande do Norte, Paraíba, Alagoas, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Río de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul and Goiás.

In addition, Sao Paulo, for example, registered a decrease in the number of infected, hospitalized and deceased associated with covid-19 in the last week, for the first time in two months.

“Deaths by covid-19 they fell 23.6% in this last week. It’s the first” in two months that “we registered a joint drop in new cases, admitted and deaths. Live life!”Sao Paulo Governor Joao Doria said on his social networks.

However, in some of the states mentioned above, such as Río Grande do Norte, Espírito Santo and Goiás, the ucis continue in a state “critical”, With more than 90% of its beds occupied, a situation in which there are still twelve other Brazilian states.

Even in Sao Paulo, the federal entity with the worst numbers since the beginning of the pandemic, almost 2.8 million cases and 91,000 deaths, the ucis are filled to 81.1% of their capacity, according to the most recent data from the regional government. .

Fiocruz, a leading medical research center in Latin America, also warned in its report on the “rejuvenation” of the pandemic in Brazil, with more serious conditions among the younger population, which is associated with the circulation of more aggressive variants of the virus.

Last March, most of the patients who were admitted to intensive care units in the country were under 40 years old, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Intensive Care Medicine (AMIB).

With 14.1 million cases and 383,502 deaths, Brazil is the second country with the most deaths associated with covid-19, after the United States, and the third with the most positives, after the United States and India.
