A hostage-taking that began as a possible femicide attempt in the Buenos Aires town of Caseros (Argentina) culminated this Tuesday after the policemen accessed the place of the kidnapping. Authorities found a man dead and shot down the attacker after a long confrontation.

The episode began on Monday night, when the attacker, identified in the media as Alejandro Maldonado (42), decided to take one of his relatives captive, after a family dinner that would have led to an argument with his partner.

“Apparently, the man, who was totally insane, wanted to strangle the woman to the point that he suffocated her, then he did CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) himself,” the Minister of Security of the province of Buenos Aires explained to the media. Sergio Berni.

After the relatives escaped from the house, Maldonado was entrenched in the house with the alleged hostage, identified in the media as José Alejandro Cáceres (47), and an operation was deployed that included the Halcón Group of the provincial Police.

Throughout the night the police tried to negotiate with Maldonado, who responded with more than 300 shots, he said. Berni, who said that the shooting was due to the attacker having a “totally uncontrolled paranoid delusion” and an arsenal with “high caliber ammunition” that the Police will now determine.
