Another Femicide: 21-year-old Girl stabbed to death in Villa La Angostura

A brutal femicide shocked the entire population of Villa La Angostura on Tuesday night: a 21-year-old girl, mother of a one-year-old girl, was stabbed to death in the heart of the Patagonian city.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred on Tuesday around ten o’clock at night in the heart of the city and even in front of several tourists who were walking through the area.

The victim was called Guadalupe Curual and the alleged murderer is who her boyfriend was during 2019, called Juan Bautista Quintriqueo, 33 years old.

As neighbors commented to the local media, The incident occurred on Arrayanes Avenue, the main street of the city, near the intersection with Nahuel Huapi boulevard.

Apparently, the young woman appeared running desperately shouting through the vicinity of the ACA in Villa La Angostura, while the femicide was chasing her.

A photo taken by a neighbor a few seconds after the attack in the place where the femicide occurred.

“We were with my family riding in the car on the avenue, when we turned at the ACA as for the Plaza de los Pioneros, we see that a girl comes running screaming for help, behind came a man with a huge knife chasing her”, was the account of a witness to the local newspaper Diario Andino.

“The girl came running desperate. They looked tired, like they came running from the square. The guy stuck the knife in the middle of the breastbone, it was terrible. The girl was still. The guy threatened with the knife those who tried to stop him,” the witness completed the story.

Several people reportedly tried to stop the attack, but the man was also threatening third parties with the knife in his hand. In fact, according to some neighbors, the femicide even injured a man who tried to interfere.

Guadalupe was stabbed in the chest.

While some of the families called the police urgently, witnesses reported that Quintriqueo tried to escape through Paseo de los Artesanos. On the run several witnesses tried to stop the femicide. In fact, there was a tourist who tried to stop the escape by throwing stones at him.

What happened to the murderer in the following minutes is still unknown. Some versions indicated that a police officer from the city of Zapala deployed her weapon and reduced the murderer, who had self-inflicted wounds and he had to be transferred to the city hospital.

Once the death of the 21-year-old was confirmed, the entire city came out to demonstrate its rejection of the new femicide.

In turn, some neighbors indicated that, at the time of the attack, the femicide criminal was accompanied by another young man, with the initials SM, who until the early hours of Wednesday was on the run.

Guadalupe Curual was an employee of a local bakery and she had a daughter who would be two years old in April.

According to what some of her friends said on social networks, the 21-year-old had already denounced her ex-partner for gender violence.

Like dozens of cases that occurred throughout 2021, the victim’s notices were not enough to prevent a new femicide.
