A new lineup of PCs announced by NEC Personal Computer (NEC PC) on January 19, 2021. At the same time, two models of the high-end Android tablet “LAVIE T11” were announced.
Actually, these two models can be called a model that can be more noticeable than a PC in a sense. BecauseIt’s been a long time in Japan, but it’s not an exaggeration to say that it will be a high-powered Android tablet.Until now, NEC’s Android tablets have mainly been low-priced models, but it is a model that breaks that image.
The estimated shipping date is February 25, 2020, and the estimated market price is around 59,800 yen for the high-end model “T1195 / BAS” and around 42,800 yen for the standard model “T1175 / BAS”.
Some people may think that there is a considerable difference in price for the same series, but in reality, these two models differ not only in storage and RAM capacity, but also in SoC and screen specifications.
Let’s start with the high-end model T1195.Qualcomm’s “Snapdragon 730G” for SoCEquipped with. The screen is 11.5 inch 2560 x 1600 resolution organic EL.. It has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
At this point, Engadget readers who are familiar with Android tablets these days may have come to the fore, but it is the fastest class of Android tabs sold in stores in Japan. Frankly speaking, it has almost the same specifications as the “Lenovo Tab P11 Pro” sold overseas under the Lenovo brand.
Lenovo Tab P11 Pro announced, premium Android tablet with organic EL (August 2020)
The exterior material is based on aluminum alloy, and the appearance is a narrow bezel design with a screen occupancy rate of 87%, which is quite a tablet. Equipped with an 8400mAh battery in a thickness of 5.8mm and a weight of 485g, the nominal battery life is “about 15.6 hours when browsing the Web”. Fast charge appeals 80% in 2 hours.
In addition, the screen is HDR10 compatible and has a maximum brightness of 350 nits (nit), 100% coverage of the color gamut (comparison target is unknown, but probably NTSC ratio. Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is 108% nominal NTSC ratio), response speed 1ms, The blue light cut cut function has been certified by Tufleinland …. It is a specification that can be expected as a high-end Android tablet. The initial OS is Android 10.
In addition, the speaker is also a 4-unit JBL brand collaboration specification. Dolby Atmos tuning is also done, and it corresponds to the surround effect “cinematic surround”.
According to these specifications, the camera is also “Imadoki’s specifications”. The rear camera has a dual configuration, with a main configuration of 13 million pixels wide-angle + ultra-wide angle (angle of view 120 degrees) of 5 million pixels. The front side is also high-definition with 8 million pixels, and it is also equipped with an IR camera for face recognition.
Furthermore, biometric authentication supports not only face authentication but also fingerprint authentication.
The standard camera app also supports features that are not like Android tablets in a good way, such as portrait mode and self-portrait skin beautification.
A cover with a keyboard, which has become a trend these days, is also available as an option. The back cover of the fabric material has a kickstand that opens up to 130 degrees, and when combined with the keyboard, it becomes a so-called Surface Pro style.
In addition, it also supports multi-window display of apps when connected to a keyboard. The so-called “PC-like” consideration is given.
The main keyboard layout conforms to Japanese JIS, and the key pitch is 1.8 mm at the longest. Although there are narrow keys, it is a fairly straightforward design. The keystroke is 1.3 mm, which is deep for the main body cover type.
There is only a high-class tab, and it also supports pen input (pen sold separately). The Bluetooth connection type has a nominal pen pressure level of 4096 levels. Use the USB Type-C terminal to charge the battery, and appeal for a full charge within 20 minutes.
Furthermore, like NEC products, it is equipped with a “kids mode” designed for children, just like existing Android tablets. It supports a home screen design that is easy for children to use and Google Family Link (a parental lock that allows you to set a wide range of restriction stages).
The standard model T1175 is equipped with an 11-inch IPS LCD.What is interesting is the resolution, which is anomalous at 2000 x 1080... It is a little mysterious specification that is 80 dots longer on the long side than Full HD.
Regarding image quality, the HDR video source is HDR10 compatible. The maximum brightness is 350 nits, and the color gamut is also unknown, but it is “100%”. It seems to be NTSC ratio like the upper model. Of course, it also has a blue light cut function, but it is not TÜV Rheinland certified.
The SoC is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662. RAM is 4GB and storage is 128GB. As expected, the processing speed of the SoC is considerably lower than that of the upper model, but it can be called a high-speed level for an Android tablet.
As with the T1195, the Lenovo brand model “Lenovo Tab P11”, which is almost the same for overseas markets, is lined up (this LCD also has a long side of 2000 dots).
The exterior material is based on aluminum and ABS, and the screen occupancy is 85%, which is also a fairly narrow bezel design. The body weight is 490g. Almost the same as the top. However, the thickness is 7.5 mm, and there is a considerable difference here.
The battery capacity is 7500mAh, and the nominal battery life is “about 13.6 hours when browsing the Web”. As with the high-end model, quick charging will appeal 80% in 2 hours.
The speaker is a 4-unit configuration inherited from the upper model, and although it is not a JBL collaboration, it inherits Dolby Atmos tuning. It also supports the cinematic surround function.
The camera has a single back side (13 million pixels), which is a price-priced specification. The front has 8 million pixels, and although it does not have a face recognition camera, it supports face recognition (but does not have fingerprint recognition).
As an option, a keyboard with a dedicated cover and a pen (this is the same as the T1195) are provided.
In this way, the LAVIE T11 is an exceptional model for Android tablets sold in Japan … It’s not an exaggeration to say that it’s a model with full specifications.
The NEC PC side calls it “a premium Android tablet that can be convinced by users who like spec-oriented IT / digital devices” as a catch phrase of the series, but especially the high-end model T1195 can be noticed as a whole Android tablet. It seems to be called performance.
There is no doubt that it will be a model that attracts a lot of attention from the tablet group as a high-end, high-speed Android tablet that was surprisingly introduced from NEC in a good way and was on the verge of extinction in the market.
