Kyiv, Feb 13 (Reuters) – Ukraine began importing US-made diesel fuel nearly a year after the Russian invasion, local trade news agency Enkorr said on Monday.

Most Ukrainian diesel imports came from Russia and Belarus, but Kyiv halted those imports after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and refocused on European suppliers.

Enkorr said the first shipment of US-made diesel arrived in Ukraine in early February and was purchased by fuel company UPG.

“A 100,000 ton tanker has arrived at the port of Hamburg, from where we pick up the product in smaller 30,000 ton tankers and transport it to our terminal in Poland,” Enkorr said, citing information from the UGG.

The diesel is produced by the Marathon Petroleum Company, Enkorr said.

“This is a very symbolic event, as it shows how the Ukrainian and European markets are transforming following the anti-Russian sanctions,” said Serhi Kuyun, director of the A-95 consultancy group.

UPG operates 81 service stations throughout Ukraine.
