LONDON (AP) — British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said Monday his government would do “whatever it takes” to protect the country, announcing a reassessment of security measures after the United States detected several unidentified planes in their airspace.

Asked about the objects, Sunak said: “I cannot comment in detail on the security issues, but people need to be sure that we have all the capabilities necessary to protect the nation”, including a rapid reaction squadron of Typhoon planes.

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said “the UK and its allies will consider what these airspace incursions mean for our security.”

He added that “these developments show just how deteriorating the global security landscape is.”

US warplanes shot down an object over Lake Huron on Sunday, the fourth bombing over the United States or Canada so far this month.

On February 4, US planes shot down what authorities called a Chinese spy balloon off South Carolina, after tracking it for several days as it crossed North America from west to east. .

On Friday, F-22 jets shot down a “car-sized” object in US airspace over the Alaskan coast, and on Saturday Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that he had ordered an American aircraft to shoot down an unidentified object – later described as a balloon over Yukon Territory in northwestern Canada.

The object shot on Sunday was described as octagonal with ropes hanging from it, but with no identifiable contents.

The three objects were smaller, different in appearance and flew at a lower altitude than the alleged spy balloon, which US authorities say was part of a fleet of spy balloons that China has sent to more than 40 countries. these last years.

China insists the balloon was a weather device that accidentally derailed.
