During Donald Trump’s presidency, actor Tim Allen tried not to say much about politics, knowing that his conservative views could make him the target of criticism. However, he said a lot in an interview in which he mockingly declared that he liked how the president “made people angry.”
Who is Tim Allen?
Timothy Alan Dick, known as Tim Allen, is a 67-year-old American actor, comedian and writer. He is known for starring in the television series “Home Improvement” and the holiday movie “Santa Clause,” as well as lending his voice to the English version of Buzz Lightyear in the animated “Toy Story” tapes.
He had already been involved in several scandals over his political stance. In 2017 for comparing being a Republican in Hollywood to living in Nazi Germany. The organization Anne Frank Center of Mutual Respect demanded apology from him.
“You have to be really careful around here,” Allen said during an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live! Talk show when the driver asked him about his attendance at Trump’s inauguration. “You can get hit. If you don’t believe what everyone believes, this is like Germany in the 1930s.”
In 2018 he was a bit more neutral about it in an interview with Entertainment Weekly: “My perception is ‘let’s see what it achieves.’ Stop knocking on the pilot’s door and try to get the guy out of his seat while he’s still flying. You may not like how the plane is flying, but you have to let it land it. Do I like or agree with him? I do not know.”
What did he say now about Donald Trump? Tim Allen was a guest on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast on this Monday, March 1 episode.
In it he said “I do not preach anything literally. I am not telling anyone how to live. I don’t like that, ‘we should do this’ or ‘we should do that’. Once I realized that the previous president was infuriating people, I liked it. It was fun just not saying anything.”
“I did not join the mob that lynched him,” he added. Unsurprisingly, his comments about Trump have earned him much criticism. Those who disagreed with Trump’s policies were offended by the actor’s liking for his controversial rhetoric on topics such as COVID-19, women’s and LGBTQ rights, Russia, and the attack on Capitol Hill.
