NEW YORK — Tired of the litter on New York’s sidewalks? Or that pet owners don’t pick up their dog’s droppings? To improve the situation, the New York City Sanitation Department released a new strategy.

A week after rolling out the city’s first new litter rules in more than half a century, the department kicked off its first major anti-litter campaign in all five boroughs in at least 15 years on Monday, one that s aligns with the recently revamped We NYC tagline that some New Yorkers have, shall we say, strong feelings.

This advertising campaign aims to involve all New Yorkers in the work of denouncing the behavior of those who litter the streets of the city.

Like what? Like those who leave their dog’s feces on the sidewalk or those who throw away their used glasses or their candy wrappers or whatever trash you have on the streets of the city.

The litter and feces problem has gotten out of hand, the city said. And this campaign tells people “where to put their trash”.

“New Yorkers have had enough litter, enough dirt on our sidewalks, and enough to feel like there’s nothing they can do about it,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. “This administration is committed to ‘cleaning things up’ and our strategy is working, but we need everyone to do their part, and that’s what this campaign is all about.”

The launch comes amid a strategic realignment of the city’s sanitation department, which includes cleaning up more than 1,500 long-ignored areas across the five boroughs, cracking down on illegal dumping and, yes, changing hours. garbage collection.

The new advertisements will be displayed at bus stops and LinkNYC kiosks for the remainder of the month. See more creativity below.
