NEW YORK — Police want New Yorkers on the hunt for a man accused of assaulting a woman last week in Central Park, repeatedly banging her head against a tree.

The 55-year-old was taking a sunrise walk Thursday morning near the park’s reservoir when the subject approached to strike up a conversation, police said.

This conversation didn’t seem to go well, as the man attacked the woman around 6am. Police said he grabbed her head and smashed it multiple times against a nearby tree.

The man, not yet identified by the authorities, fled. He reportedly hopped on a blue CitiBike and rode down the 86th Street Transverse toward the east side.

Police said the woman was picked up by medics and treated at a nearby hospital.

The department released the first look at the suspect on Saturday, circulating a sketch of the shooter wanted in the attack two days earlier.

He is described as a full grown male, around 5ft 4in and 140lbs, with cropped black hair and a spot on the left side of his face. He was also wearing a dark blue jacket.
