A month has passed since a comet that visits Earth every thousand years was spotted from Japan. Mitsuha is a college student who laments her life in the countryside with her little sister, her grandmother, and her father, a politician she never sees. He hates his family’s quaint ways and dreams of the wonderful lifestyle of Tokyoites.
For his part, Taki is a student who lives in Tokyo, works part-time in an Italian restaurant and needs to get away from his family. One night, Mitsuha dreams that she is a boy from Tokyo and Taki dreams that she is a girl who lives in the countryside. What is the secret behind the dreams of two people who, although they don’t know each other at all, seem to be desperately looking for each other?
