The renovated Mas Monumental stadium in River Plate

River Plate He needed to modernize and expand his house and in August 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the management made an important decision, as they found the right framework to start a project that was going through the minds of the members. from the administration board. administration for 6 years: completely renovating the Monumental playground. Moreover, the conduct was moving forward with the other ambitious goal, which was to enlarge the capacity of the stadium.

From that moment on, the machines never stopped at the Antonio Vespucio Liberti stadium and fans who say they will appear this Sunday against Argentinos Juniors as part of the third date of the Professional League will find a renewed stage.

In the first place, supporters of the Núñez club will be able to see three of the four new stands and how the gray color has become one of the predominant colors, following the trend of other big venues, such as Tottenham or the Santiago Bernabéu.

As a result of this expansion, the stadium’s capacity increased to 83,196 (26,890 in the Sívori sector, 13,374 in Belgrano, 17,755 in San Martín and 25,177 in Centenario). However, it should be noted that this will not be the definitive number, since at the end of the second part of the works, scheduled for 2024 with the inauguration of the new lower Belgrano, the capacity will increase to 84,567, which will make it the largest in South America.

In recent weeks there has been a last minute aesthetic change by adding more red to the pits. The main novelties will be in the sector of new popular. Both in the Sívori and in the Centenario the main color will be white, but in the wounded there will be a horizontal red stripe. Also, unlike the first rendering published by the club itself, the initials CARP and 1901 (founding year) will be in red instead of black.

Beyond the fact that gray seeks to convey modernity and space, it also represents savings in the medium and long term. It is that the red, according to studies carried out by the company in charge of the works, turns to pink in just five years. Gray, on the other hand, lasts much longer (about triple).

In addition to the new lower stands and the placement of new seats, there have also been reforms in the area of the boxes, the popular ones and the stalls behind the arches have been redistributed and the new unique tunnel for the exit of the players will be released , which He will remain between the benches of the substitutes (they will be below the level of the field of play so as not to cover the vision of the first line of the bottom San Martín).

In the Millonario they have also chosen to change the facade of the Antonio Vespucio Liberti on Figueroa Alcorta Avenue by replacing the old mirrored windows with new ones both in the lower Centenario and at media height. In addition, the new avalanche barriers have been installed and the desks in the press area have been renewed.

In the second stage, which will cost approximately $20 million and is expected to be completed in July 2024, the bottom ring will close. With the works in Belgrano, 46 boxes will be added to the middle Sívori and thus the circulation of the stadium will be closed. Two additional parking levels will also be added (402 new garages, completing the five parking levels and a new pedestrian walkway on the upper level, with a connection at the box level). It will thus be able to accommodate 1141 cars.
