During the ID@Xbox keynote, developer Wishfully shared a new look at two levels of the upcoming adventure game Planet Of Lana.

Although Planet Of Lana hasn’t received a new release date beyond Spring 2023, Wishfully has revealed a new look at the game in action.

The new footage is set on the planet Novo and follows protagonist Lana and her partner Mui through a swamp. Players will have to cross the swamp and solve puzzles to help Mui, who is afraid of water, reach the other side safely. Mui’s abilities also come into play, as the creature is able to hypnotize the sprawling inhabitants of the swamp and reach places Lana cannot.

The next level shown was placed where a spaceship crashed. While it retains Planet Of Lana’s hand-painted art style, it’s much more industrial in nature, and the ship slowly comes to life as Lana continues to explore.

A preview of composer Takeshi Furukawa’s score for the game was also offered in both tiers. Furukawa’s previous work includes the 2016 action adventure The Last Guardian, which was nominated for a BAFTA for its music.

Speaking to the press, creative director Adam Stjärnljus revealed that Studio Ghibli’s 2001 film Spirited Away served as a “guiding star” for Planet Of Lana, which he describes as fun and quirky despite exploring… a serious topic.

While a specific date has yet to be confirmed, Planet Of Lana will launch as an Xbox Game Pass title on day one for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

As for what fans can expect, the Planet Of Lana Steam page describes “a story about a vibrant and beautiful planet, and the journey to keep it that way.”
