The followers of Depeche Mode they are lucky. After several countdowns and on dates we thought would never come, the legendary British band have released their new single. It is Ghosts againthe first glimpse of Memento Morithe new album which is approaching.

The group was already advancing a few seconds of this new song on their social networks and already then the dark sound that animated it could be appreciated. the music videoin black and white, begins with the band members playing chess on a rooftop, moving on to walking through the city and playing in a graveyard.

This will be Depeche Mode’s first duo record, and it inevitably comes marked after The death of Andy Fletcherone of the founding members of the group.

“Time flies, we’ll see what happens” is the phrase with which Depeche Mode began to prime the possibility that we would soon have new music. Dave Gahan and Martin Gore kept their promise and They announced a new album. Memento Moriwhich will arrive on March 17.

This new album will be the first in six years, after Mind from 2017, as well as the first release after the death of founding member Andy Fletcher. The keyboardist died last May at the age of 60.

We are already learning more information about this long-awaited new work from the band. Frontman Dave Gahan spoke about how they treated him in an interview with NMErevealing that he was initially hesitant to make a 15th Depeche Mode record. “At first I was pretty resilient. I was like, ‘I don’t know if I still want to do this.’

Despite the fact that part of the album began recording before Fletcher’s death, the latter was not reflected in the final material. “He’s never heard of it, which is really sad for me because there are songs on that record where I know he’d be like, ‘This is the best we’ve had in years. “I can hear his voice. I can also hear him say, ‘Do all the songs have to be about death?'”

“After Fletch died, we decided to continue because we are sure that is what he would have wantedand it really gave the project extra meaning,” said Martin Gore.

“Memento Mori” was first announced last October with details of an extensive world tour that will pass through Spain. In our country Depeche Mode will offer two shows to present its album Memento Morione in Barcelona on Friday June 2, 2023 and in Madrid a week later on Friday June 9 as the big headliners of the His Primavera.

An album inspired by the pandemic

The group explained that Memento Mori is inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic. Asked about his new creation, Martin Gore commented that they started working on this project a few days after the outbreak of the coronavirus and that after Fetch’s death at the end of May this year they decided to continue because they are sure of that, that’s what “he would do”. “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to bring it to you live at next year’s shows.“, insisted on specifying his partner Gahan.
