Cocaine Bear director Elizabeth Banks has said she thinks the film’s bloody ending could end her career.

Banks, who previously directed Pitch Perfect 2 and Charlie’s Angels, called the new film in an interview with Variety “huge risk.”

Producer Christopher Miller said Banks’ proposal for the film, based on a true story, was “pretty bloody”. He added: “He had many body parts and internal organs.”

On his view of the film’s ending, Banks explained, “I wouldn’t recommend anyone to do this, but if you go online and see real animal attacks on humans, it’s fucking scary. I love gore. I grew up on evil Mort. Gore is part of the fun of the ride.

She went on to say, “This could be the end of my career.”

The film stars Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., O’Shea Jackson Jr. and the late Ray Liotta.

When the trailer was released, one person commented on Liotta’s prosthetics in the movie. The film marks Liotta’s final role.

John Semley wrote: “I’m not a big fan of ‘God Guy’. but when you hear that Ray Liotta’s last posthumous performance is in a movie called ‘Cocaine Bear’, and that’s his look in it.. .well, it’s hard not to believe there’s divine architecture shining behind that pale curtain we call ‘reality’.”

Cocaine Bear will be released in UK cinemas on February 24. Take a look at the trailer here.
