Armie Hammer has been “the worst” during the pandemic lockdown, according to his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers.

The couple and their two children moved to the Cayman Islands when Covid-19 swept the world in 2020. The family moved to the Caribbean island to live with Hammer’s father and stepmother. Hammer previously described to GQ that it had become a “very complicated and intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a tiny little place.”

He has come to compare himself to a “trapped” wolf who wants to “bite his paw”. However, Chambers has now offered his own opinion on the matter in an interview with Elle, where he said his behavior was generally negative. “It was the worst,” he said.

According to Chambers, although Hammer pushed the idea of going to Cayman, the Call Me By Your Name star quickly decided to leave. The actor is believed to have returned to California to help his friend renovate a run-down motel near Joshua Tree National Park, leaving her and the children in the Cayman Islands.

“My heart broke into nine million pieces, and I took it to the airport anyway,” Chambers said. “You can give, you can love, you can be there for someone, but you also have to hold people accountable.”

In July 2020, Chambers filed for divorce from Hammer, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce is not yet final.

Elsewhere in the interview, the TV personality recalled learning about the various allegations that surfaced about Hammer in 2021.

Hammer denied any wrongdoing, but admitted to being “emotionally violent” and mistreating people. In a recent interview with Air Mail, Hammer was asked if he was “emotionally abusive” towards the women he admits to having affairs with. The actor responded that he emotionally abused “a million percent” of two women, Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze, who accused him of sexual misconduct.

He added: “I’m here to admit my mistakes, to take responsibility for the fact that I was an asshole, that I was selfish, that I used people to make myself feel better, and when I was done , I moved on.”

“Now I’m a healthier, happier, more balanced person. I can be there for my kids like I never have been before. I’m really grateful for my life and my recovery and everything. I don’t not go back and undo everything that happened to me.”

Chambers declined to comment on the Air Mail article, but revealed the couple had been seeing psychotherapist and relationship specialist Esther Perel for most of their marriage. He said: “(Esther) always said grief was literally worse than a heroin addiction, and I think about that a lot.”

A three-part documentary series, House of Hammer, aired last year exploring the sexual abuse allegations against the actor.
