Beijing, February 12 – A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan with no casualties or property damage so far, local media reported today. .

The quake struck at 07:35 a.m. local time (11:35 GMT) on Saturday with its epicenter 67.5 kilometers south of the county seat of Hualien and at a depth of 31.8 kilometers, according to the Taiwan Meteorological Bureau’s Seismological Center. .

The tremor was felt across much of the island’s east coast in Taiwan, with greater intensity in Hualien and Changhua, the report said.

It is the second telluric movement that has occurred this week in the same area, where on the 8th there was another earthquake of magnitude 5.4 which also did not cause human or material damage.

Taiwan sits at the junction of the Philippine and Eurasian plates, so earthquakes are common on the island.
