Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 was bad enough already, and now animation studio MAPPA is complicating things even further by announcing that the first half of the next part will be an hour-long special. This cinematic change was revealed on the show’s Twitter account (via Crunchyroll) and marks a colossal departure from the usual 20-minute episode format. The premiere of the third part, lasting one hour, will take place on March 4. Part two is slated for later this year, though it’s not yet clear if it will be an extended episode as well.

While another change to the release of Attack on Titan: The Final Season may be a bit of a headache for some, others will be thrilled with the news. The change means fans won’t have to wait for episodes to drop from week to week, but it also satisfies those who were hoping the series would end with an Attack on Titan movie. Whichever way you look at it, it’ll be enjoyable to sit back and get lost in (SPOILERS) Eren Jaeger’s new apocalyptic world for a full 60 minutes when Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part One premieres. 3 next month.
This will be an intense dive into Attack on Titan, especially since the latter part of Season 2 cut it short with the start of Eren’s assault on humanity. While he is on the shores of desolation, Mikasa, Armin and the rest of their comrades follow him miles away. They have a long journey ahead of them if they hope to catch up with The Rumbling, but with an hour-long premiere, we have an even better chance of seeing them reunited before the wait for part two begins. Hopefully MAPPA will reveal a release date for Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 3 sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for news.
