The father of Meghan on Tuesday questioned the accusations of racism made by his daughter and Prince Harry against the British monarchy, assuring that he is “disappointed” by the shocking interview that the couple gave on American television.

Meghan distanced herself from her father, Thomas Markle, before her wedding with the grandson of Isabel II in 2018, for which she, settled in Mexico where she gave a very controversial photo session to the paparazzi.

The former American actress and her husband, sixth in line to the British throne, moved to California in March 2020 after leaving their duties within the monarchy.

In an explosive interview with the TV star Oprah Winfrey, they denounced on Sunday the pressure of the British tabloid media and their racism, as well as the lack of understanding of the royal family about their situation.

They also affirmed that a member of the royal family- who was not Queen Elizabeth or her husband Felipe – had been “concerned” about the skin color of her son, since the mother of Meghan is black.

Markle, with whom the Duchess of Sussex has not had contact for years, said Tuesday on British television to hope that it had been “just a silly question.”

“I don’t think the British royal family is racist at all.” 76-year-old former director of lighting for American television, based in Rosarito, told the ITV channel.

Thomas Markle admitted that he does not know any member of the British royal family, not even his son-in-law Harry and his grandson Archie, who is almost two years old.

Meghan assured Oprah that she had done everything possible to protect her parents from media pressure and that she felt “betrayed” when she found out that Thomas was feeding the tabloid press.

“I’m very disappointed. I have apologized for it, at least 100 times ”, Markle said.

“I’m sorry I did”, added. “But no one had bothered to protect our family members” when “we were attacked by the press every day.”

Despite the distance, he assured that he “loves” his daughter, whom he would like to see again.

In February, Meghan won a lawsuit against the publisher of the tabloid Mail on Sunday, which she sued for invasion of privacy after publishing excerpts from a letter to her father in August 2018, asking him not to appear in the media anymore.
