The Spanish army for the European Championship in Torun (Poland) next week (March 4-7) will have a total of 35 athletes, 16 women and 19 men, who have been selected after meeting the criteria established by the coach Pepe Peiró and the RFEA Sports Directorate.

The absence of Orlando Ortega, Olympic runner-up of 110 hurdles, who has not recovered, stands out of his discomfort discomfort (dislocation in three toes of his left foot when hitting a fence in a competition) and will not be able to accompany fourteen recent Spanish indoor champions and three current European champions from Glasgow 2019: Ana Peleteiro, Álvaro de Arriba and Jorge Ureña.

Also included are four national record holders, Peleteiro and Ureña themselves in triple jump and heptathlon, Óscar Husillos in 400m and María Vicente in pentathlon.

The competition will start on Thursday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. with the men’s high jump and long jump finals, with the participation of Eusebio Cáceres in the latter, and the women’s shot put.

The championship will conclude on Sunday 7 at 19:10 with the final of the women’s 4x400m relay. Accompanying the technical manager Pepe Peiró on the expedition as technicians: Jorge Marín and Antonio Puig in speed / hurdles; Arturo Martín and Antonio Serrano in middle / background; and José Antonio Ureña in combined.

The European will have all the sanitary measures established in the European Athletics protocol: the use of masks will be mandatory at all times, except for athletes in competition.

Before traveling, it will be necessary to carry out a medical examination, as well as a PCR on all members of the expedition. A PCR that will be repeated upon arrival at the hotel in Torun, and that will keep the delegations isolated individually awaiting the results.

Once the results are negative, the expedition will be able to check in and continue with the championship planning.
