The Senate asked the CDMX government to remove the marijuana plant in front of its facilities

The The Senate of the Republic asked the government of Mexico City to intervene in the removal of the marijuana “plantón” which occupies the gardens outside the upper house since February 2020, which has been consolidated in recent months as a free space for consumption and exchange and even as a market.

“I do believe that It is time for the government of Mexico City to put special interest, because it is also affecting the pedestrian, it affects the pedestrian and affects all visibility also of the Senate ”, assured this Thursday the president of the Upper House, Eduardo Ramírez, in a press conference.

“We have asked Mexico City to intervene. First with dialogue and in a second instance, that those who have the tools to apply the law, do it. But, firstly, it is a dialogue and inviting them, because this is already a space where the Senate has already complied, ”said Ramírez.

The president of the Senate assured that Citizens have already filed complaints against the sit-in, which among other things also planted cannabis plants in the gardens of the Upper House facade that have grown tremendously on the site.

“They are complaints from people who cannot get through at night. Sometimes there have been problems that arise and that put the integrity of the people who pass by at risk”, Said Ramírez. “So, I think it is a very fair request and that we are going to await the response of the government of Mexico City,” he added.

According to Ramírez, when people came to demonstrate, a little over a year ago, they did so “with a fair claim, with a legitimate cause: to regulate cannabis”, both in the medicinal part and in the recreational part. “We understood your request, however, this Senate complied, we legislated the matter, it was regulated and sent to the Chamber of Deputies,” he reiterated.

“This legitimate demonstration ceased to have this authentic nuance and gave way to becoming a vintage on cannabis derivatives, cannabis itself. And good, It is information that we have, not with evidence, but it is already a sale of different narcotics and other types of derivatives”, He warned.
