Floods in Querétaro: the shocking images left by the heavy rains

October started strong and during the night of Saturday and early Sunday the rain hit to the city of Querétaro, generating affectations in different areas.

According to information from the State Civil Protection Coordination, the most affected neighborhoods in the municipality were Carrillo Puerto, Las Teresas and Santa María Magdalena, where the water level exceeded the “bench height” and there were numerous floods.

“There are flooding in the streets: del Maíz, Claveles, 18 de Marzo and Espuela del Ferrocarril, in the Carrillo Puerto neighborhood. Also ingress of water into the houses on Hacienda Tequisquiapan street, in the Las Teresas neighborhood,” the agency reported on social media.

In the town of Saint mary magdalene they reported flooding in the roads; and emergency teams recovered in the Querétaro River, the body of a mortal victim, although the authorities did not clarify if the person lost his life in an accident caused by the rains.

In addition, there was also damage to the Casa Blanca neighborhood. The municipal president Luis Nava went there during the early hours of Sunday to visit the affected homes.

“Friends and friends very good evening. We gave you this report at 01:21 in the morning, working on the damage that the drain suffered and that dumped a lot of water on the houses. We are taking care of the affected families,” said the mayor.

Through social networks, neighbors shared images of the damage caused by the storms in the city. In one of the videos you can see how a truck got stuck on Pasteur avenue, at the height of the 57, heading south.

The bus was practically submerged under water and passengers had to climb onto the roof of the vehicle to get to safety. According to state Civil Protection, all civilians were rescued and are in good health.

Devastating videos were also shot in other areas of the state. One of them occurred in the Corregidora municipality, in the Candiles neighborhood. There, a car fell into a drain and was stuck in the middle of the strong current.

“We are working on the Candiles drain at the level of Fernando Díaz street, due to the fall of a vehicle inside the body of the drain. Upon arrival of the units, there were no people on board, in coordination with Public Security Corregidora, the whereabouts of the driver are investigated among neighbors and witnesses,” reported Municipal Civil Protection, which confirmed that a total of seven cars stranded in the town were attended throughout the night.

The floods were also severe in another municipality, The Marquis, where the river that crosses the Saldarriaga neighborhood overflowed and there were flooding in the Santa Cruz neighborhood.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) had already warned that very heavy rains in Querétaro. According to the climatic organism, these were caused by the entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean, tropical wave number 34 and atmospheric instability.

For this Sunday, October 3, lighter rainfall is forecast in the state, with showers that will not exceed 25 millimeters (compared to the 75 that were registered yesterday in some areas). Meanwhile, the municipal and state governments will carry out an assessment of the damage and asked to remain attentive to their official channels.
