The women of the Italian Democratic Party (PD) are outraged with their leaders, after at least one minister of this center-left formation has not been included in the new Executive and today they will meet to analize the situation.

The newly formed Government of Mario Draghi has not taken into account the request for a joint Executive formulated by some political forces and has 8 women in 23 ministries.
But what has hurt the PD’s policies the most has been that among the figures indicated by the PD to Draghi to occupy possible ministries, none was a woman.
The conservative Forza Italia has two ministers, Mara Cargagna (South and territorial cohesion) and Maria Stella Gelimini (Autonomies and General Affairs), while the only representative in the Government of Italia Viva is a woman, Elena Bonetti (Equality), and also the far-right Liga has Erika Stefani (Disability).
The three PD ministers chosen by the economist for his cabinet are men: Lorenzo Guerini will be in Defense, Dario Franceschini in Culture and Andrea Orlando in Labor.
The decision of the secretary general of the PD, Nicola Zingaretti, has been to ensure that only women are elected to the post of undersecretaries of state or vice ministers, which has increased the protest.
Today the National Conference of Social Democratic women will meet to analyze the situation.
The PD MEP and former president of the Emilia Romagna Region Debora Serracchiani considered in a message on Facebook that now giving the undersecretaries of the ministries to women was like “repairing a broken vase with duct tape.”
Although Serracchiani added that “there are no more excuses” for the women of the PD, who have not yet taken seriously “the challenge of leadership.”
Also the deputy of the PD and former president of the Chamber of Deputies Laura Boldrini expressed in the media her disagreement over the possible appointments as undersecretary of State.
“After what happened, a few positions as undersecretary will not be enough. I say it clearly: the Democratic Party must end the structure of the currents that eliminates female protagonism and prevents renewal. If it does not do so, it will end up losing its progressive identity and its social purpose, “the deputy explained to the media.
Another of the historical PDs and Minister Livia Turco several times considered the absence of women from the party in the government as “a very serious, unbearable fact, the result of a macho logic.”
The person in charge of Equal Opportunities of PD Lucia Bongarzone affirmed that, this time, “the expectations this time were high, reason why the thud is even greater”.
“The question is one: is there a gender culture in the party or not? Because otherwise the beautiful proposals remain a role to throw away,” he added.
