Brazilian Bishop Tomé Ferreira da Silva resigned from his position in the Diocese of Sao José do Río Preto after the leak of an intimate video on social networks, a resignation that was accepted by Pope Francis, according to the National Conference of Bishops. of Brazil.
The bishop’s resignation comes days after a video appeared on social networks that shows the religious half naked and caressing his private parts, while he is talking virtually with someone on the other side of the screen.
In a brief statement, which does not mention details of the resignation, the Episcopal Conference indicated that the archbishop of Ribeirão Preto, Moacir Silva, will take over as the new bishop of the city.
It is not the first time that the religious, appointed bishop in 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI, has been involved in sexual scandals.
The religious resigned in September 2018 from his position as regional coordinator of the Archdiocese of Riberao Preto, linked to the Episcopal Conference, after learning that the Vatican was investigating him for the alleged omission in cases of sexual abuse by priests of the diocese .
The representative designated by the Vatican for the investigations was Bishop José Negri, of the Diocese of Santo Amaro and a personal friend of Pope Francis.
