Microsoft has developed the Chromium-based web browser Edge for the latest game console Xbox and has begun open testing. Xbox testers belonging to the Alpha / Skip Ahead Ring within the Xbox Inider Program can try out the new Edge browser on the Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One.

The Xbox version of Edge does not yet fully support mouse / keyboard, and although bugs still remain, it is said that it will work well with the Xbox controller.

The Xbox version of Edge should, in theory, also be able to use Google’s streaming gaming service Stadia, due to its compatibility with the underlying Chromium browser. It also improves compatibility with browser games, Skype and other services. It uses the same synchronization engine as Edge on other platforms, so you’ll be able to enjoy the useful features of the Internet today, such as data synchronization between platforms.

It seems that the Xbox version of Edge is still far from completion, but considering that it will be used more often on large screen TVs with resolutions of 4K or higher, game consoles will be better in the future. It may also increase your chances of becoming the center of web browsing at home.

Note that Xbox’s rival PlaySation 5 does not currently have an easy-to-use web browser. Since it has the ability to display web pages on the screen of the app, there is a possibility that a standalone web browser for PS5 will be prepared in the future, but at least at the time of writing this article, Chromium, which occupies most of the browser market It can be said that Xbox has an advantage, including the point of being a base. Of course, it may not be a big deal for those who do not bother to visit the website on a game console.
