According to a recent report from Strategy Analytics, Apple reigns supreme in the 5G smartphone market worldwide

The 5G smartphone market, although still relatively young, is already very well supplied. The majority of the big manufacturers are present and the models multiply. Today there are dozens of them. When asked who has the biggest slice of this new pie, it seems to be Apple once again.

Apple reportedly reigns in the 5G smartphone market

When Android device makers focused on bringing 5G smartphones to the market a year before Apple, many wondered if the Cupertino firm’s decision to delay entry could do it harm. It would seem that it didn’t matter.

Indeed, according to a new report from Strategy Analytics, Apple would not be satisfied with being first in this market but it would completely dominate it.

Will the Cupertino company manage to resist its competitors?

According to the data in the report in question, during the fourth quarter of 2020, which saw the launch of the first 5G iPhones, Apple would have shipped more than 50 million 5G iPhones, which then represented around 40% of global 5G smartphone shipments. Oppo would have the second place, but with “only” 14 million units.

Also according to the Strategy Analytics report, the top 5 sellers of 5G smartphones at that time were: Apple, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung and Xiaomi, in that order. That being said, today is 2021 and the numbers have changed.

Apple is said to still reign supreme in the market, with around 30% of total shipments in the first quarter of 2021 but its competitors are quickly coming back.

It should also be noted that, since Apple usually launches new smartphones once a year, these figures are not surprising. All the more so with popular models like the Samsung Galaxy S21 which was released a few months ago.

It is difficult to know if Apple will be able to hold its position throughout the year but it is in any case quite astonishing that, despite its delay at the start, so to speak, the Cupertino company has managed to dominate the debates.
