The bone democrats in the United States Senate opened this Sunday the door of the ban from the social network TikTok in the country, citing the concerns of national security amid fears that Beijing is using data from the platform to spy on Americans.

Ask in an interview with the channel ABC Due to the possibility that the ban on the social network will be enforced in the country, the leader of the Democratic majority in the Senate, chuck schumerhe said that “It’s something that needs to be analyzed.”

“We know that the company that owns TikTok is Chinese-owned. And there are people on the trade committee looking at that right now. We’ll see where they come out of it,” Schumer said.

The words of the representative of the Democratic Party in the U.S. Upper House comes months after the Senate unanimously approved a rule banning the use of the TikTok app by federal employees on government-owned devices.

US lawmakers have said they fear that the data, collected by the company, held by the Chinese company ByteDancecould be passed on to the Chinese regime.

Republican Senators Josh Haley there Ken Buck they also introduced a bill last week to ban TikTok, which has more than 85 million users in the US alone, from any US device.

Also, senator Michael BenetColorado Democrat and member of the Intelligence Committee, asked the executive directors of Apple and Google of Alphabet que basically TikTokthe Chinese-owned video-sharing platform from its app stores, citing “serious” national security concerns.

Yet, CEO of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew, will appear in March before the Senate House Commerce and Energy Committee. As announced by the committee, Shou will discuss TikTok’s “consumer privacy and data security practices, the platforms’ impact on children, and their relationship to the the Chinese Communist Party”.

The Biden administration, through the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, has assessed a proposal to allow TikTok to continue operating in the United States under ByteDance ownership. The arrangement would include routing US users’ traffic through servers managed by Oracle.the American database giant auditing the application’s algorithms.
