“Proteus has accomplished your mission”, one of the Sedena puppies died in Turkey

In the early hours of February 12, the Secretary of National Defense (sedena) announced on Death of “Proteus”one of canine pairings who traveled with the Mexican delegation to bring aid to Turkey, after the earthquake that occurred on February 5 in that country.

It was through his Twitter account that the Sedena announced the unfortunate news, at 1:33 a.m. the publication appeared, where they attached the photo of the dog and thanked him for his excellent work.

“Thank you Proteo for your heroic work, you have fulfilled the Mexican Army Puppy mission. The members of the Mexican Army and Air Force deeply regret the loss of our great companion, the dog Proteo. You have fulfilled your mission as a member of the Mexican delegation in the search and rescue of our brothers in Turkey.”

So far, the Sedena has not gone into details about the causes of the pup’s death, according to unofficial reports on social media. it is assumed that it was during his service as a lifeguard.

The group of dogs that arrived to provide their search and rescue services in Turkey consisted of 10 dogs. Kiara, Towards the end, Theology, Timba, Cheap, Territory, Bascule, Burette, Biosphere and the deceased protection.

Sedena dogs, usually German Shepherd breeds, specialize in locating people trapped in landslides with their noses.

For its part, the Animal Lawyers of Mexico account thanked the pups for their courage with a message: “These beings (canids) only remind us of the unpayable debt that we owe them. Hopefully our gratitude is reflected in better laws for them, with more programs to ensure the animal wellbeing and dignified treatment.”

It should be noted that 93 members of the army and the air force, 37 members of SEMAR, 15 members of the Red Cross and five members of the SRE take part in the Mexican rescue squad to provide support after the earthquakes that claimed more than 4,000 lives. and hundreds injured.

Hours before Proteo’s death, a Mexican Red Cross team, consisting of Edgar Martinez and Balam, managed to rescue a living person aged 35 to 40 during the fourth day of support in Turkey, which was stuck in the rubble of a building collapsed due to the February 5, 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
