Marcelo Ebrard assured that relations between Mexico and the United States will not be affected by AMLO’s statements on the blockade of Cuba (Reuters)

After President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced that his government would work to withdraw the economic blockade imposed on the island of Cuba, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard assured that Tabasco’s statements will not affect relations between Mexico and the United States, which is why excluded that there is a tension between the two countries.

It was Saturday, February 11, when the head of the Cuban regime, Miguel Díaz-Canel, arrived in Campeche where he was received with honors by the federal agent. During his speech at the official ceremony, López Obrador spoke out for the blockade of the Caribbean island and announced:

“We will continue to demand that it be removed, Lift the blockade of Cuba that it is inhumane and not just when it comes to voting at the UN (United Nations)”

In view of this, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) indicated that this is a position that Mexico has maintained since 1962, for which he assured that the statements of AMLO they were not made with the desire to annoy the United States.

Mexico and the United States are allies but we do not have the same interests (…) What President López Obrador proposes is to leave the past behind and to lift this type of blockade and try to create a fraternal coexistence of the Americas, that’s what he proposes, which we all respect”
