After touring the area of Roses in La Depresión (Cauca) where the landslide was recorded on January 9 and which blocked the via Pan Americanhe Guillermo Reyes, Minister of Transportannounced that the next February 20 will be activated passage of mule tractors for him temporary alternate corridor which is built in the area.

“For the Government of Change it is very important to respect the commitments made with the community, which is why we have arrived today in the company of the general manager of Invías, at this stage of the Depresión La Sierra-Rosas, where we currently have the transit activated, to review the progress of the work and we can confirm that in 10 days we will cross the corridor, in this way the south of the country can gradually recover the connectivity it needs to stimulate the trade products that are generated in the region”said Minister Reyes.

The senior official clarified that the practicability of the semi-trailers will be done with a 30-meter bridge and will be carried out as follows: A day sense Pasto–Popayán and the next meaning Popayan–Pasto.

For this, we have worked on an action plan with resources of 70,000 million dollars that include the maintenance of alternative routes, so that those who transit between Pasto and Popayán can transit safely.

Latorre recalled in turn that there is to this day three alternative routes in the automobile traffic sector:

– Alternative route 1: Depression – La Sierra–Rosas (31 km). For light vehicles and loads up to 10 tonnes. With 44 machines ready, maintenance and improvement works are carried out in the area in restriction bands.

– Alternative route 2: Pasto–Mocoa: San Francisco–El Pepino. Traffic on this road is permitted for light public service and freight vehicles up to a 30 ton double truck and buses up to 30 passengers. In the area there are 11 machines for maintenance work.

– Alternative route 3: Seated Stone–El Tambo–Popayán. Traffic on this road is allowed for light vehicles, passengers and goods up to 30 tons. In the area there are 43 machines for maintenance work.

As part of the visit of the Minister of Transport to the region, the Governor of Cauca, Elías Larrahondo Carabalíthanked the national government for the rapid response it has given to the emergency, while celebrating the fact that next February 20 the passage of semi-trailers will be authorized on the Pasto-Popayán highway.

“Thanks to the government’s commitment, the transit of freight vehicles through Ecuador and their return to the country has been possible. We have seen the 24/7 work of the operators in the area and the evolution of the route is remarkable. We expect and trust the professionalism of our engineering. We are ready to propose solutions to the government so that together we find the best mobility solution in the region.”said the regional president.
