There Constitution and Regulation Commissiondirected by the legislator Hernando Guerra Garcia (Popular Force), approved in its ninth tenth session to extend the day of the vote to a range of ten hours.

In this way, people will be able to exercise their vote in a new schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The initiative was debated and finally approved – with 16 votes for and 7 against – last Friday, February 10.

The intention of the said working group, as well as that of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), is to reduce crowds at polling stations.

The head of the Commission considered that the said measure protects the right to vote of the greatest number of voters, the very one who has a constitutional character.

On the other hand, the approved proposal also provides that prisoners, who do not have a sentence, have access to vote in their respective prisons.

For this, the ONPE will install voting tables in 68 prisons in the country. With this, it is expected to collect the votes of at least 35,000 inmates who exhibit the characteristics described above.

The aforementioned initiatives, approved by the Constitution Commission, were raised by the Jury of the National Elections (ETC) at the request of the ONPE.
