Huaral’s tomb contained human remains over 800 years old.

Unite the traces of history of Peru. archaeologists of San Marcos University writes a valuable chapter to enrich what we know of the Culture of Chancay. The professionals, led by Dr Pieter Van Dalen, discovered human remains with more than 800 years.

Their stay in Huaral allowed them to detect these vestiges of the ancient civilization. The bones of two adults and a newborn were found during the search. These were found in a tomb located in the Macatón funerary archaeological site.

This scenario is one of the largest and most important graveyards of the aforementioned civilization. Many morgues have been found here in square tombs. It is presumed that the order of these people, and the depth, would be part of the burial of the family members.

The team’s first report UNMSM indicates that, among the remains found, the child and an adult are still in their funeral packagesa practice in which a corpse was wrapped in several pieces of textile.

They comment that apparently it would be a mother with her son. As for the third body, it is an adult found in a skeletal state. His package was torn, so it is presumed that this damage was caused by looters.

What are the looters doing? They are responsible for conducting clandestine and illegal excavations in archaeological spaces with the sole purpose of selling what they find to the highest bidder.

next to the corpses ceramics and containers with leftover food were found, such as corn, pacay leaves, cotton seeds, fruits and other products from the region. It is known that these elements were used for the beams within the framework of the funeral ritual.

The leader of this exploration, Dr. Van Dalen, maintains that what has been discovered is a multiple burial dating from the year 1200 AD or more. The deceased, of whom confirmation of a certain relationship is awaited, would have been of a lower class in the Culture of Chancay.

To understand this culture, it is important to recognize the importance of death in their society. THE funeral ritualsthat stretched for days, the funeral songs and dances in honor of the deceased, they would indicate that they acted under a mystical, magical and even religious connotation.

They kept the memory of their dead with ceremonies of honor, considering them as powerful ancestors, who would protect their families.

This would allow us to understand the delivery of offerings, food and ceramics; perhaps as a thank you and welcome to its transcendence.

Our history unfolds a cultural and historical legacy that is admired throughout the region and around the world.
