CLEVELAND, AP — The Cleveland Cavaliers are trying to finalize a contract with veteran Danny Green, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The three-time NBA champion began his professional career in Cleveland in 2009.

Green, 35, will sign with the Cavaliers if the parties can “work out some details,” the person who spoke to the AP said on condition of anonymity because the team did not comment on their interest in the player.

Green posted his status on Twitter saying, “It’s not over…”

A respected player, Green would bring another shooting and postseason experience to a team trying to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. Green has 165 postseason games.

Cleveland has won six straight and currently sits fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Green was available after reaching an agreement to walk away from his deal with Houston, which acquired him in the cap trade from Memphis. He’s only played three games for the Grizzlies this season after tearing knee ligaments last season in the playoffs with the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Cavaliers didn’t make any trades before the trade deadline, but president of basketball operations Koby Atman said the team may explore the market.

Green is averaging 12.4 points and 4.9 rebounds in 14 seasons with the Cavs, Spurs, Raptors, Lakers, Sixers and Grizzlies.
