Kaleb Heng never imagined his grandmother’s birthday present would make him a millionaire, the California Lottery reported Thursday.
“I’m pretty excited! I certainly didn’t expect it,” said Heng, who said his grandmother gave him a scratch gift on the day he could legally play the lottery for the first time.
“My mother took me fishing and on the way I scraped the scraper. We had to stop. It was a million dollars and I didn’t even have ID yet! Heng exclaimed. “We turned around and went home because I needed to get ID before I could claim the ticket.”
And the scratch card was aptly called The Perfect Gift.
Heng told the California Lottery that he would use the money for his college education and to invest in his future.
Grandma bought her ticket at the Oasis Market store in Turlock.
A similar story was that of John Vang, from Fresno, who received a Power 10’s Scratch-Off for Christmas.
It was his brother-in-law who gave him the scratcher because Vang assures that he only played the Powerball or Mega Millions lottery, but not scratch cards.
To his surprise, when he scratched, he realized he had won a million dollars.
