The Brighton Police Department (BPD) identified the suspect Sunday of causing an accident on I-76 around 7:20 p.m., which resulted in the death of a 10-year-old boy.
The suspect identified as Karena Cecil, 27, of Brighton. She is currently being held at the Adams County Detention Center on charges of:
- Vehicular manslaughter
- Careless driving
- Child abuse (two counts),
- Driving without proof of insurance
- DUI
Cecil was the mother of the boy who lost his life in the crash on Saturday night, Brighton police reported.
The early stages of the investigation revealed that speed and alcohol were factors in the accident. The driver of the only car involved in the collision was arrested at the scene of the accident.
