Twenty-two thousand participants will take part in the 2023 Los Angeles Marathon, which will take place this Sunday in an event that will cover 26.2 miles through the city’s neighborhoods and iconic locations.

The route again goes from Dodger Stadium to Century City.

Los Angeles Marathon Schedule

The Los Angeles Marathon will start at 7 a.m., but there are several other events. Here is the complete program.

  • 6:30 am: Race for wheelchair athletes
  • 6:35 a.m.: crank race
  • 06:40 a.m.: Pro Women y Elite women of the age group
  • 7 a.m.: Pro Men and open field
  • 8:15 a.m.: Media Marathon Benefica

Saturday will feature the LA Big 5K, starting at 8 a.m., and the LA Kids Runs, starting at 9:30 a.m. Both will kick off at Dodger Stadium.

The course remains the same for the third consecutive year, beginning at Dodger Stadium north of downtown Los Angeles and ending at Santa Monica Boulevard between Avenue of the Stars and Century Park in Century City.

Along the way, participants will pass through some of Los Angeles’ most famous landmarks and some of the city’s best-known neighborhoods, including Chinatown, El Pueblo of Los Angeles State Historic Park, Los Angeles City Hall Angeles, Little Tokyo, Disney Hall and Los Angeles County Music Center, Dolby Theatre, portions of historic Route 66 and Rodeo Drive.

Los Angeles Marathon Weather Forecast

After a barrage of winter storms that brought rain and snow to Southern California, dry and cool conditions are expected through the weekend. Expect mostly cloudy skies with temperatures in the 60s.

Drivers near Dodger Stadium and other areas north of downtown Los Angeles, as well as in Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Century City and other communities will face road closures. The course also requires continuous highway ramp closures.

How much money does the winner of the Los Angeles Marathon get?

The marathon has a total purse of $20,000. The first place wins $6,000, the second $2,500 and the third $1,500. The first runner to cross the line, male or female, receives an additional $10,000.

A total cash prize pool of $10,000 is available for the men’s and women’s wheelchair division. The winner receives $2,500, second place takes home $1,500, and $1,000 goes to third.

How long will it take to run the Los Angeles Marathon?

John Korir placed first overall last year with a time of 2:09:07.13. That’s better than a 5 minute pace for over 26 miles. Korir of Kenya also won the 2021 event, with a time of 2:12:48.

Participants will finish at the end of the morning or in the afternoon.
