A person has been found dead in an apartment complex after a fire broke out in El Monte on Monday morning.

The fire started in a two-story apartment complex, located in the 11400 block of Magnolia Street, around 3 a.m. An upper level unit was completely engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the attic and an adjacent apartment.

Residents of the complex were evicted, and when firefighters entered to search the property, they found a lifeless individual. No other injuries were reported.

A woman, identified as 38-year-old Crystal Moss, reportedly told firefighters she started the fire after she allegedly used a lighter to light a ‘tree of life’ to burn off negative energy, sadness and the pain of his life. ”, but that he did not want to hurt anyone.

According to authorities, some residents reported hearing explosions. Ammunition, ammunition and firearms were inside a unit.
