I believe that Toyotaro He has his own favorite illustration, and yes, I’m talking about the one where Goku can be seen leaning on Bardock’s shoulder mid-jump. Not only have we already seen it as a diorama sold at JUMP Festa 2023 or as the cover of what will be the 20th volume of the manga of “Dragon Ball Super” (along with some other additional fixings), but now it’s also inspired a color illustration of Goten and Trunks for the conclusion of the prequel arc of “Dragon Ball Super: Super heroes“.

If you like the illustration of Goku and Bardock, you will love this new piece of Goten and Trunks in the manga

Without further ado, I leave you with the images side by side as shared by DBHype during yesterday (in a tweet that has now been deleted, yes):

Some differences I find interesting to underline, and even funny, the following:

  • On the one hand, I find it quite striking how the expressions of the protagonists of the image change: Goku and Bardock battle in a deathmatch, while Goten and Trunks are in one of their most dynamic stages yet.
  • On the other hand, I’m a big fan of how Gas’ pecs simply became Dr. Hedo’s zombie androdies. The truth is understandable given that the two characters don’t have exactly what I would call a similar physique.
  • As I commented before, the color illustration of Goten and Trunks was done for promotional purposes since Dragon Ball Super manga chapter 90 is the last of the prequel arc from Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes. it will be so from manga chapter 91 we can see how the facts of the movie start to fit properly.

I’ll be honest: I like the illustration but I hope this will be the last time (at least for a while) that the same image design will be used. In the end, having it used for a cover feels great to me because of the story-wise involvement of the Granolah arc towards Goku and Bardock, but continuing to project it onto more characters feels great to me. a bit excessive. Anyway, I can’t deny that I think the result is cool.
