Prosecutors will decide on Wednesday whether or not to impose charges against a white police officer for the death of an African-American man in a suburb of Minneapolis, which sparked violent protests, according to the AP agency.

THE EVENT SPOILED VIOLENT PROTESTS IN MINNEAPOLIS

Washington County Attorney Pete Orput told WCCO-AM radio station that he received information about the case from state investigators and that there would be a decision Wednesday on whether or not to apply charges.

Kim Potter, the police officer who fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic violation, was apparently attempting to use a stun gun, not a firearm, as the individual struggled with police, the chief of staff said Monday. Potter has submitted her resignation.

Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon also resigned two days after the incident.

Mike Elliot, mayor of Brooklyn Center, said Tuesday that authorities were ready to fire Potter when she made the decision. The official said he hoped that the agent’s removal would bring a bit of reassurance to the community, convulsed by the fact.

Tim Gannon, the now former Brooklyn Center police chief, described the shooting death Sunday of 20-year-old Daunte Wright as “an accidental shooting.”

The families of both African Americans killed by the police in Minnesota organized a joint press conference to demonstrate their “union”, in their words.

It happened while police were trying to arrest Wright on a pending warrant. His death sparked protests and riots in a metropolitan area already under intense tension due to the trial of the first of four police officers charged in George Floyd’s death.

“I’m going to apply the stun gun to you! I’m going to apply the stun gun to you! Taser! Taser! Taser! (the mark of the gun)”, shouts the police officer as heard in the shots captured by her body camera, which were presented at a press conference.

She draws her gun after the man manages to get away from the police in front of his car and gets back behind the wheel.

The victim was identified as Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old black man.

After firing a single shot with his firearm, the car sped away and the police officer was heard saying: “Holy (foul word)! I shot him”.
