NEW YORK — If you’re interested in vocational training focused on the food industry and you live in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx, you’re in luck because there’s an organization that offers free training courses.
Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education and Employment is an organization that focuses on job training and job placement. The center prepares mature students for employment in a variety of jobs in the food industry, including commercial and institutional kitchens, restaurants, and cafeterias.
Training courses include cooking basics, baking and poster making, barista basics and other intensive sessions designed to give you the skills you need to land a job.
Classes are taught in state-of-the-art kitchens and classrooms by instructors who know first-hand the
skills that employers are looking for in their new employees.
In addition, the center offers job placement services and preparation assistance, from resume writing to references.
Where is Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education and Employment located?
The center is easily accessible in the heart of the Soundview district at 1600 Randall Avenue.
You can take the Bx27 bus to Clason Point (Randall Ave./Rosedale Ave. stop) or the Bx5 bus to Pelham Bay (Story Ave./Metcalf Ave. stop).
Alternatively, you can take the 6 line subway to Morrison Avenue Soundview station and then take the Bx27 bus as mentioned above.
What are the costs?
The Center is managed by HFH, a non-profit entity. All costs for training, course materials, job preparation and referrals, and maintaining an alumni network are provided at no cost. Allie’s Place Center for Culinary Education and Employment is a community resource.
