Both issues will be longer and feature, alongside John Romita Jr., another top cartoonist, Kaare Andrews. The latter’s presence, however, may provide unsettling clues as to what could prove so unsettling: Andrews was actually the writer of the Spider-Man: The Reign miniseries, a story set in a dystopian future in which Peter was a widower. haunted by the death of Mary Jane.
Could the event so disturbing be the death of the historical partner of Spider-Man? It would seem like an all-too-obvious reference to Gwen Stacy’s death, actually.

For now, we just know that the Spider-Man universe has changed a lot. Most of his friends and family have turned their backs on him, starting with Aunt May and going on to MJ, who even has a new partner. Peter’s only remaining friends are Black Cat and Norman Osborn, the latter currently a reformed hero known as the Gold Goblin.
However, it is impossible not to mention that Spider-Man has been characterized by presenting interesting stories that promise to change and reframe the character.e, but after a few months they bring him back to his usual conventions: student or university professor, with no money, looking for time to go out with MJ and taking care of his aunt who always seems to be on the verge of death.
Perhaps worst of all is how they “reset” these stories, where, in the crudest way, they bring the character back into evolution. Perhaps the most hated of these “resets” is the one they did in the Back in Black saga where they called upon Mephisto’s magic in a way that never made sense.
