NEW YORK — A series of attacks in a Brooklyn neighborhood has the community worried. The acts of violence happened in less than an hour and in one of them an 83-year-old man died.

Joevani Vale, 26, is being pursued by police after he allegedly stabbed his neighbor to death inside the council housing complex, Wyckoff Gardens, In Nevins Street. The victim was reportedly found dead in the elevator of a building around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police later identified the victim as Ramón Cintrón, known to many as The thin. The neighbors were effusive with their kindness.

“The man never bothered anyone,” said one woman. “He was bringing prescriptions to everyone in that neighborhood.”

But about 30 minutes earlier, the alleged attacker had also stabbed a woman in the thigh, outside a restaurant in Rue des Navins. Restaurant workers rushed with a first aid kit to try and help her before she was taken to hospital for further treatment.

A few minutes later, the suspect allegedly rammed another, which was a few blocks from the Pacific Street and the 3rd avenue.

The third and final attack occurred less than an hour after the first, when Vale allegedly stabbed his neighbor in the arm and neck. The 26-year-old suspect had previously been arrested for assault in 2020 and forcible touching and public obscenity in 2016, according to a police source.

The NYPD set up a mobile command post in the neighborhood to coordinate the search for Vale.
