Wii U may crash for some system owners if not in use, reports say

Some reports go around a problem with I love you consoles that could be corrupted from lack of use.

Persistent memory system errors seem to be to blame here with error code 160-0103 appearing on the screen. A person who calls himself “Cireza” says his system no longer works despite having been in a box for many years. Nothing has been done on the console and it has not undergone any modification.

There are similar accounts by others online, most of which date back to when the Wii U went extinct for a long time. As another example, a few months ago Reddit user John25601600 also saw his Wii U not working after not using it for over five years. This person also saw a black screen with error code 160-0103 on startup.

Unfortunately, if you encounter the error code, your options are limited to correct it. Since the platform was retired years ago, Nintendo has stopped servicing Wii U units. The only possibility mentioned by some sites is to back up the NAND memory.

Sometimes, with these kinds of reports, they can exaggerate a bit. It’s unclear how widespread this problem is – it might end up only affecting a small percentage of Wii U owners. alight.
