Blizzard has updated the version of ‘Overwatch‘On Xbox Series X / S, from now on the popular shooter game incorporates support for optimizations and gameplay at 120 frames per second on Microsoft’s next-generation consoles. As with titles like ‘COD Warzone’ or ‘Rogue Company’, the optimization has not been released on PlayStation 5.

Support for 120 frames per second gaming has arrived without raising too much noise. From the developer, the implementation of these novelties has been mentioned among the notes of the last update, which as the main course launches the fun challenge PachiMarzi. But from its application, the game will have three display modes on Xbox Series: resolution, balanced and frame rate. Each configuration follows the following standards:

Resolution: Prioritizes the highest resolutions over graphics quality and offers 4K and 60fps on Xbox Series X and 1440p and 60fps on Xbox Series S.

Balanced: prioritize graphics and lower resolution, offering 1440p and 60fps on Xbox Series X and Full HD and 60fps on Xbox Series S.

Framerate: prioritizes frame rate, reducing resolution and graphics. Delivers 120 fps at 1440p on Xbox Series X and 120 fps at Full HD on Xbox Series S.

Blizzard notes that features like 120 frames per second and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) will only be available if the TV that came with the console includes support for those features. New generation consoles use HDMI 2.1 connection, which supports 4K and 120 Hz.

The company has also chosen not to comment on the arrival of optimizations for ‘Overwatch’ on PlayStation 5, but if they follow in the footsteps of other studios in the same situation, the update may take some time or never reach the console. next-generation Sony. For 8th-gen games, implementing frame rate and resolution changes tends to be simpler on Microsoft platforms.

According to several developers, Xbox One already had support for functions that have been consolidated in the new generation, which facilitates the use of these specific improvements. The ‘Rocket League’ study, for example, explains that bringing features like 120 frames per second can be considered a patch for Xbox Series X / S, but releasing the feature on PS5 requires practically developing the game completely. Thanks to this, the Sony console has not yet been able to offer 120 frames per second in several games of the last generation that already run at higher speeds on Xbox.
